Stunning Autumn | Fall Sensory Bin Ideas And Inspo

Let your little one explore the colors, textures and even scents of autumn with these amazing sensory bin ideas.

Create a gorgeous invitation to play based around this beautiful season. It is the perfect opportunity to learn your little ones all about autumn whilst providing them with an engaging sensory experience.

Start with a plastic box or use a sensory / craft table (a Tuff Tray or Ikea Flisat are both great) and then begin to fill with a ‘sensory bin filler’ which is usually just something from the kitchen cupboard!

Some great autumn sensory bin fillers are

  • Corn
  • Chickpeas
  • Rice
  • Oats
  • Pasta
  • Pumpkin Seeds
  • Sawdust

If you wish you can dye corn, chickpeas, rice, pasta and dried pumpkin seeds using food coloring.

Next add anything you can find that screams autumn to you, for example

  • Pinecones
  • Acorns
  • Mini log slices
  • Leaves or arficial leaves
  • Mini pumpkins
  • Animal figures
  • Autumnal colored beads
  • Wooden letters

And lastly add items your child can use to explore and play, example

  • Large tweezers
  • Cups
  • Funnel
  • Scoop
  • Magnifying glass

Sensory play encourages imaginative play, creativity and builds fine motor skills which is great for strengthening hand muscles for drawing and writing.

Here are my favourite sensory play tray ideas from Instagram. I’ve tagged the accounts so you can take a closer look at their amazing autumn set ups.
